The Telegraph UK has reported that
Britain will become the first country to allow online access to surgical survival rates across 10 specialties.
The Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has said that the
data will show the performance not only of hospitals, but of individual consultants in the hope that the public information will inspire doctors to raise their standards and match those of their peers.
Further comment followed later in the British Medical Journal.
Australia has some data available online, such as that for cardiac surgery outcomes in public hospitals in Victoria. The publicly available data appears to be limited to hospital level information, rather than to individual surgeons.
