The National Disability Insurance Agency has developed a draft 2013 – 2016 Strategic Plan, which has been released for comment before 16 January 2014. The document is available online.

Three core goals are identified in the draft plan:

  • People with disability are in control and have choices, based on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
  • The National Disability Insurance Scheme is financially sustainable and is governed using insurance principles.
  • The community has ownership, confidence and pride in the National Disability Insurance Scheme and the National Disability Insurance Agency.

Given recent Government statements and media comment, the financial sustainability goal, along with the  insurance principles set out in Appendix 1 to the draft plan, may be of particular interest.
