Discussions about creation of a statutory duty of candour, following adverse health events, have taken a further step forward with the release of a report by Professor Norman Williams, President of the College, and Sir David Dalton Chief Executive of Salford Royal Hospital, were asked by the Secretary of State for Health to lead a review on two proposals to enhance candour in the National Health Service.

The report includes a recommendation that the duty of candour should extend to moderate harm outcomes.
