Last month the Australian Government somewhat belatedly released the report of the Review of the Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record. The Review had been completed in December 2013.
The Government’s views on the recommendations have not been stated, nor does it seem that they will be for some months.
38 recommendations were made. The first is simply to rename the scheme to the somewhat easier label “My Health Record”. An model which would permit consumers to opt out of the use of the scheme was recommended, but with Medicare payments for doctors being tied to use of the scheme in some circumstances, thereby providing an incentive for its use.
