Reported today by Louise Hall (Sydney Morning Herald) was the making of orders by Bathurst CJ such that the Supreme Court of New South Wales will be the venue for the hearing of a charge against a retired nurse under section 45 of the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW), which prohibits female genital mutilation.

The trial (planned for August 2015) may be the first in Australia for female genital mutilation. Earlier this year, the first similar prosecution in England was announced.  The English prosecution nominated a medical practitioner as defendant:
