Hicksons Health Law blog reports:

Responding to the findings of a commissioned sample survey of the NSW community to establish what the sampled individuals knew about their right to access health information under NSW privacy legislation, the NSW Privacy Commissioner – Dr Elizabeth Coombs – has released new privacy guidance on accessing health information under the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (HRIP Act).

The three new fact sheets, including links to the source material, are:

  • Checklist for public sector staff: Responding to a request to access health information – Schedule 1, Health Privacy Principle 7 of the HRIP Act

  • Checklist for private sector staff: Responding to a request to access health information – Part 4, Division 3 of the HRIP Act

  • Fact sheet: Accessing your health information in NSW – for individuals who wish to access health information from NSW public sector agencies, public and private health service providers and organisations that hold health information
