Any patient in the Danish health care system who experiences a treatment injury can make a compensation claim to the Danish Patient Compensation Association. A paper by Jens Tilma & others describes the DPCA database as a source of data for epidemiological research.

The authors conclude that the approved closed claims are indicative of partly or totally preventable injuries and are therefore of great interest in designing efficient preventive initiatives and a health care system with better patient safety.
