Neonatal deaths: Victorian regional hospital investigation

ABC News is today reporting a statement by the Minister for Health, Victoria, that over a two-year period between 2013 and 2014, there were 10 stillborn and newborn deaths at the Djerriwarrh Health Service at Bacchus, prompting an investigation.

The investigation found of those 10 deaths, seven may have been avoidable. Another media report suggests a link to a doctor who had previously worked at the hospital.

The health service has created a webpage Actions undertaken to improve safety of maternity services. Further detail appears on a subsidiary page.

The health service reports that the Coroner has been informed of all of the cases of perinatal deaths at Djerriwarrh Health Services during 2013 and 2014.
