Improvement to patient safety is expressly referred to in the November 2015 “Action Plan” published by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Eight primary goals are identified, with Goal 6 including attention to explicit standards for all surgeons involved in education and supervision of medical research. That goal also seems to identify under-performing supervisors for remedial education purposes.

Entitled Building Respect, Improving Patient Safety, the opening statement notes:

Drawing on the experiences of our own Fellows, Trainees and International Medical Graduates, the EAG research revealed widespread discrimination, bullying and sexual harassment in the practice of surgery. These behaviours are bad for individuals, impair teams and put patient care and patient safety at risk.
