Today marks the end of the formal Court year in New South Wales and therefore a reduction in the number of likely entries on this blog until February 2016.
This blog now has almost 1,300 followers including those on Twitter (@billmadden), with almost 22,000 site views this year (up 35% from last year). Most readers are from Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom, with a surprisingly wide spread elsewhere including Japan and Malaysia.
Many of the 240 blog posts this year referred to decisions of the New South Wales Supreme Court, which appears to remain the busiest trial court in Australia measured by published decisions – about 1,950 decisions in 2015 (c.f. Victoria 750, Queensland 360).
In the appellate arena, the New South Wales Court of Appeal in 2015 dealt with more than 400 matters (not including criminal matters) and the High Court of Australia appears to have published 51 substantive decisions.
There are no medical litigation decisions currently listed for argument before the High Court in 2016, but at least one matter remains listed for special leave consideration (Waller v James, wrongful birth).
