The BMJ reports what is said to be the first  first action by the UK regulator to go to a hearing that focuses on a doctor’s managerial role rather than on his clinical practice.

In a hearing that opened on 6 June and is listed to finish on 1 July, the medical director of an NHS trust repeatedly failed to take action to protect patients from the risk of harm posed by a bungling consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, the General Medical Council has alleged.

Note: The outcome of this action is now available online.
