Maternity services review: Rockhampton

Following maternity services concerns in Victoria, somewhat similar issues have been the subject of an expert panel review for Rockhampton Hospital in Queensland.

The review was conducted under Hospital and Health Boards Act 2011 (Queensland) section 125 (2): and as it contains confidential information regarding the care of identifiable individuals the report will not be released in full.  However  a summary and the full list of 35 recommendations is now available online.

It is not clear whether Queensland Health intends that the recommendations will be implemented at other similar regional hospitals. The recommendations include reference to:

  • Prompt attention to Root Cause Analysis processes.
  • Perinatal Morbidity and Mortality reviews.
  • Multidisciplinary policies.
  • Staffing ratios and other staffing improvements including training.
