Many readers of this blog, especially those in New South Wales, will have known Penelope Watson, who sadly passed away shortly before Christmas. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and colleagues.

Penelope Watson was most recently the Director of Learning and Teaching at the Macquarie University Law School. Her teaching and research areas included torts law, with her particular research interests having included medical/health law , wrongful life and wrongful birth.

With Professor Carolyn Sappideen and Professor Prue Vines she was an author of the leading  text “Torts: Commentaries and Materials“, published by Thomson Reuters and now in its 12th edition.

In academic circles Penelope was also well known for her teaching and mentoring work, having won a number of awards over the years including the LexisNexis Australasian Law Teachers Association Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Teaching of Law.

A formal announcement appears not to have been made as yet by the University, but I am told that a celebration of her life will be held at The Treehouse, North Sydney, on Saturday 11 March 2017 at 2 00 pm.
