The Assistant Minister for Health (Commonwealth) has announced the proposed establishment of Australia’s first National Rural Health Commissioner, to be established upon the enactment of the Health Insurance Amendment (National Rural Health Commissioner) Bill 2017 (Cth).

The first task of the Commissioner will be to develop a National Rural Generalist Pathway, to improve access to training for doctors in regional, rural and remote Australia.

The National Rural Health Alliance has noted a number of issues requiring attention.

With thanks to Janine McIlwraith for noting this development.
