Charitable fundraising

The NSW Government has released the report of an Inquiry under the Charitable Fundraising Act 1991 into the various parts of the Returned Services League (RSL), in which former Justice Patricia Bergin was the Public Inquirer and Anthony Cheshire SC was the senior counsel assisting the inquiry.

Though much of the report focuses on the RSL, from page 504 there is a discussion of wider issues in respect of Australian charities, many of which operate in relation to health and medical issues. From page 531 there follows a discussion of potential improvements to the relevant legislation.

The recommendations of the Inquiry are set out from page 543, with the wider recommendations appearing under the heading Reform at [14.7] and onward.
