Abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults

The NSW Ombudsman published a report on 2 November 2018 entitled ‘Abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults in NSW – the need for action‘.

The report makes three broad recommendations, including the establishment of an independent statutory body to investigate and take appropriate action in relation to the suspected abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults in NSW, as outlined in the NSW Law Reform Commission report on the Review of the Guardianship Act 1987.

Page 33 of the report makes reference to introduction of an NDIS Worker Screening Check to provide greater safeguards for people with disability who are supported by NDIS registered providers, including addressing some of the issues associated with employees who move between registered providers in the wake of allegations.
