Medical litigation in China

An annual report of the Supreme Court of the People’s Republic of China indicates that its trial caseload grew by some 20% in 2015, to about 11.5 million cases.

Earlier reports suggest that in 2014, these included about 20,000 medical claims (growing at about 12% per year). 40% are saiidd to resolve through mediation.

Professor Benjamin Liebman has written about medical litigation in China, in the Columbia Law Review (2013).

With thanks to Associate Professor Tina Cockburn, for noting this information from the Supreme People’s Court Monitor.
